Size: various – program applicable to corporate and owned / managed properties worldwide, including the Sheraton, Westin, W Hotels, Aloft, St. Regis, Le Meridien, Four Points, Element and Luxury Collection brands.
Supporting the development and execution of corporate-wide sustainable initiatives at Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, for implementation in their owned and managed properties across the globe. Services have included collection and analysis of key environmental performance indicators; assessing and prioritizing sustainability initiatives for portfolio-wide roll out; development of implementation tools and resources; assisting corporate sustainability reporting efforts; greenhouse gas emissions accounting; and setting reduction targets and developing strategies for world-wide rollout to meet those goals. This is an ongoing contract. Thus far some of the major milestones have been:
- The company’s first Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Corporate Sustainability Report developed for 2008
- Corporate-wide greenhouse gas emission reported to the Carbon Disclosure Project in 2008
- Pilot programs focusing on lighting efficiency and green cleaning
- Development of corporate-wide leading practices and guidelines as they relate to sustainability, including plans for piloting potential practices and evaluating strategies in terms of cost and benefits
- Assistance in the establishment of sustainability tracking and information management system, including enhancement of previously existing tools or programs to accommodate LEED / sustainability parameters for document and optimizing the corporate-wide environmental footprint
- LEED Certified national hotel chain (ELEMENT) designed with environmentally conscious goals
